Making the Invisible Visible
We, as global citizens, want peace. In 1945, there were 2865 peace non-governmental organizations (NGOs). Today, there are over 40,000. In 2014, a clear need emerged for these peace organizations not only to strengthen their collaboration with one another but partner with others outside of their circles to truly rally around Peace Day on September 21. With a little help of what is now the program PeaceDay365, several hundred organizations, including the business community and millions of individuals, proved that the results could be beyond impressive. Unprecedented increases of over 1,400% in engagement in the digital and social media sphere brought about a whopping 11,235% increase to 382 million via the hashtag #PeaceDay alone. This year, it is expected that 1.2 billion people will be reached on Peace Day and with the continued, growing efforts of individuals, businesses and peace organizations being stepped up further, the message will be quite clear. True collaboration brings real results.
Partnerships for Peace
Each year, the United Nations designates a new theme for Peace Day. This year’s theme is “Partnerships for Peace – Dignity for All”. This year also marks not only the 70th Anniversary of the creation of the UN but the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. We couldn’t think of a more important and historical time to form true Partnerships for Peace. We are currently working on this year’s campaign and sincerely hope you will join us.
